The Growing Kids Sale is owned and operated by three siblings and their spouses. Together they join their God-given talents and abilities to make an efficient, organized team to produce the sale twice a year in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
The inspiration for the Growing Kids Sale came as sisters Kim Hoelzeman and Faith Beeman attended a similar sale that was 2 hours away to shop for Kim's children - Faith was still single at the time. After about six years of attending that sale, it seemed a no-brainer for the sisters that the Fort Smith community families needed a children's consignment sale too.
With Faith's love for organization, and being single with time to devote to a new project, she held the first Growing Kids Sale in the spring of 2003. This first sale was held at the old Phoenix Village Mall with 58 consignors registered to participate.
Before the next sale that fall, Faith had a vision for making the Growing Kids Sale a "family affair", and asked her siblings, John Wasson and Kim Hoelzeman, along with their spouses, Heather Wasson and RJ Hoelzeman, to utilize their talents to oversee certain areas of the sale, and become a team to make Growing Kids all it could be. Casey Beeman joined the crew in 2006 when he and Faith married.
The Growing Kids Sale grew quickly, with 50% growth at many sales, and many growing-pains to accompany the growth as they would shift to different locations within the Phoenix Village Mall, and finally landing at the Kay Rodgers Park Expo Building, where the sale is still currently held. The six-family team felt blessed to see the impact the sale had on the community, and hear the countless testimonies of local families who began using the Growing Kids Sale as the resource for their children's wardrobes and needs each season.
The Growing Kids Sale has now hosted just under 2,000 registered consignors in one season, and new families continue to learn of the sale and participate. The GKS Staff spends countless hours brainstorming on new ideas and improvements for each event. Huge developments along the way have included barcoded tags for faster check-outs and accuracy, drop-off appointments to serve each consignor quickly and efficiently, large-item ticketing to ease the purchase of hard-to-carry items, daily online earnings reports for consignors, and many other ideas implemented to serve the needs of the consignors and shoppers.
A Note from the GKS Staff:
Each of us feel so incredibly blessed to be a part of something that meets the needs of our community. The hours of preparation and work are so worth it as we hear of the families that are able to affordably clothe their children by selling and shopping at GKS. We are thankful that God entrusted us with organizing this event, and continues to bless the sale. We hope that, at least in some small way, the Growing Kids Sale is a reflection of His love. We appreciate all of our consignors, teammates and shoppers, and have enjoyed making new friends! Please take time to stop by the next Growing Kids Sale to see what a children's clothing consignment event is all about!
